Are you looking for an unusual item to jazz up your bathroom or walk-in shower? The Prince Aha Hourglass stool is one of the first items I bought even before we moved into our new house.

I wanted a stool or some sort of seat in our shower. Something that made it feel like a luxurious spa. This wasn’t just to decorate the area, I wanted to be able to sit down to shave my legs! Bending over in the shower to do that job is not only awkward, it can be dangerous.

I wanted something that looked stylish. The shops weren’t open near me at the time, so searching online for shower seats or stools showed me lots of items I definitely didn’t want!

It soon became apparent I needed to look outside the box. It turns out once I saw the item I wanted, I wasn’t the first person to think of using it this way.

The Perfect Choice

My choice was a replica of the Philippe Starck Kartell Stool. It has a stylish hourglass shape and is made of plastic so it is safe to use in the bathroom.

The Scandi, Mid Century Modern and Contemporary are the decor styles I gravitate toward the most. So it was the perfect choice for me.

The real thing was more than I wanted to pay so a good quality replica was the answer. There are some fantastic designer replicas on the market these days.

The Prince Aha stool does come in a variety of colors but I chose the white as it worked best with our bathroom color pallet.  I styled it with items I already owned as in the image below.

i. A bottle of shampoo.

ii. A body brush used for dry brushing the skin before showering.

iii. A small loofah.

iv. A bamboo soap holder and a bar of translucent soap.

A Small Problem Solved

Once we had moved into the house and began using the shower, I started to notice a smell no amount of cleaning seemed to get rid of. I finally realised that the stool was taking in water. No-one wants stagnant water lying around in the bathroom!

The problem was this item was designed as a storage stool or a side table so the top lid is removable. This was where the water was getting in.

The easy fix was to seal the seams with silicon and the problem was solved. If I’m not intending to use the stool that particular day I just move it out of the shower area to keep it dry.

Overall, I am delighted with this item. Not only does it work as a fantastic visual prop but it also does the job I originally wanted it for. I have also seen the stool used as a side table to the bathtub to hold candles, flowers or even a glass of wine.

What are your thoughts? What other ideas can this versatile stool be used for?
