How to Easily Control Long Hairdryer Cords Using Toilet Paper Rolls

I really love my Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer and it looks fabulous on my bathroom countertop. The only problem I have is the cord is super long and heavy.

I was constantly trying to arrange it neatly as well as stopping it from slipping off the surface and pulling the hair dryer with it. I didn’t want to attach any type of holder to the wall, so I looked around for another solution.

Luckily, I happened upon a hack mentioned on social media to use a empty toilet roll to control the cord. So I searched YouTube to come up with ideas to brighten up the dull color.

The steps in this video are simple and very cost effective. You can use a variety of coverings including but not restricted to contact paper or any self adhesive colorful paper. Washi tape or decorated regular tape. I opted for ribbons and braid to make one of my cord holders. The other was made with braided paper trim, the type you find in craft stores.

You may find you already have the necessary items around the house. The items I found worked perfectly for me.

5. Ribbons or braiding to decorate the edges

6. Glue if not using self adhesive paper

Easy Steps

i. Gather your items together

ii. Remove any left over toilet paper sticking to the rolls

iii. If using adhesive paper, cut it to size taking care to match up any patterns

iv. If you are using washi tape or ribbons, roll around the roll before cutting to avoid any join lines

v. Glue the ribbon to the roll, tucking the ends inside the roll

vi. Fold your cord so it fits snugly inside the roll.

vii. Admire your handy work and how neat your bathroom counter now looks!

I am not usually very crafty but I found this project easy and a bit of fun. Here is how my efforts turned out.

finished cord holders made from toilet rolls in red and neutral colors

As my Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer is red I looked in my stationary cupboard and found some red ribbon and some matching braid to give it a more finished look.

I also made a spare out of the braided paper I had as well, but I do love the red one the best.

The best thing about this hack is it doesn’t cost very much, so it can be changed up as often as you like as your other decor items change.

I used this hack for my hair dryer cord but you can make a lot of these and use them to store any loose cords you have around the house. Instant tidy house!
